State of Decay 2 is the sequel and follow up to the 2013 hit State of Decay. It is exclusive to Xbox. Sorry PlayStation 4 players: we don’t hate you, but this is our game. This review will cover my thoughts on this game and how it stacks up to other games in this genre for solo and multiplayers. Everyone has their own opinion, but mine is the only one that matters, am I right?

Like its predecessor, the original State of Decay, State of Decay 2 is also an Xbox 360/PC exclusive. This game comes in 2 formats: the standard edition format and the ultimate edition format. The difference between the 2 formats is that the standard edition just comes with the game and nothing else. There are no add-ons for the game included. The ultimate edition comes with 2 add-ons for State of Decay 2 and the original State of Decay game. If you have a subscription to Xbox Game Pass, you have been able to play this game since it was launched last year. You can also play this game cross-platform: meaning that you can play this on Xbox with your friends who play on PC.

Moving on to what matters: storyline and the gameplay. The game is very challenging but entertaining. The storyline is that you and two others have survived the first stage of the zombie apocalypse. The goal is to build your base and make sure that you have enough resources to sustain your population. You can trade for items with others, and throughout the game, you will be exploring the land and interacting with other communities. The cross-platform functionality is a nice touch because it allows users to play with friends without requiring both players to use the same platform. The multiplayer in this game is cooperative. This game is enjoyable to play because you can start your community over and try it with new people, changing the experience. Upon completion, you can start over with the three survivors from the community you finished the game with.

Let’s examine the graphics in this game to determine if playing it on the Xbox one is worth it or not. The graphics are excellent on an Xbox One S, and I can only imagine what the graphics would look like on the even newer Xbox One X.

So how does this game stack up to other games in the zombie horror genre? The gold standard of the zombie horror genre is the Resident Evil franchise, and compared to Resident Evil, the game is quite good. As a side note, I look forward to reviewing Resident Evil VII, the latest game in that series.

I’ll go ahead and close this review out. I’ve covered what I think of the game and if I recommend this game. I recommend the game to those who enjoy the zombie horror games, and hope that this review has persuaded you to give the game a chance.

Thanks for reading

Jason
