BitLocker How to
1. You must be on Windows 10 pro or enterprise to be able to use Bitlocker
2. Not enabled on Hard Drives by default on Windows 10 pro or enterprise
3. Can either be enabled by using Group Policy on server 2012 or later or manually enabling on the hard drives you want to encrypt
4. To enable bitlocker on a hard drive you must right-click the hard drive and select enable Bitlocker and follow the prompts to encrypt your hard drive
5. You can either backup your recovery key to your Microsoft account or to an external hard drive or USB key
a. It is recommended to backup your bitlocker recovery key to a USB key rather then your MS account should you lose access to your MS account or a hacker gains access to it and thus has access to all your recovery keys that you have linked to your MS account
6. Bitlocker is recommended for use on external drives and drives with sensitive information on them such as drives with financial information stored on them
7. Bitlocker protects against having a computers hard drive taken out and put into another computer and an attacker being able to access all your important files on it
8. To be able to access the hard drive the attacker must either know the passcode that you have set up on your hard drive or must have access to your recovery key.
9. Bitlocker is designed to protect all your information from being accessible to those who would use it for malicious purposes.
10. Bitlocker is also recommended on all devices that can be connected and disconnected from all computers on your network if you don’t have your computer locked down so that users and administrators can’t install USB devices to transfer sensitive information
