We have been using this salon to get our haircut for about 5 months. I started going to American Hair International back in November of last year, my first experience with them. The salon owner’s name is Mimi, and she is an outstanding hair stylist, although all the other ladies who cut hair here are extremely good. I have always enjoyed the friendly atmosphere of the employees at American Hair International from the moment you call in to make an appointment, through the time you walk into and out their store. There is usually someone behind the desk the minute you walk in who asks if you have an appointment and who you are there to see.
Their pricing is spot on for a salon of this caliper. Combined with the very friendly staff I can honestly say that I will continue to come back here for all my haircuts. A typical haircut for me is $20 without a tip. Mimi always goes out of her way to make me feel welcome and she has done a fabulous job cutting my hair. This shop also offers a variety of other services besides haircuts with varying prices for their services. From what I know about other comparable hair salons in the Lexington area, their prices are competitive. The stylists who cut your hair, go out of their way to make you feel welcome and relaxed, and typically talk to you during your haircut. While engaging in some gab might not be everyone’s cup of tea, I have always enjoyed this aspect of my time in this salon.
What sets this salon apart from the other salons in the Lexington area? First, the extremely friendly attitude of the stylists at this salon, and their willingness to ask you what you want done with your hair, and when they are done what you think of the haircut. I have been to other salons in Lexington, and the extreme attention to detail that Mimi and her staff put into each haircut they do truly sets them apart from the rest. Granted cutting my hair is a little easier than cutting a woman’s head of hair, but I still have a pretty thick head of hair and it is a challenge to cut it right. Although it is also a little further for me to drive, considering that there is a great clip’s right around the corner from where I work, it is well worth the time and effort to get what I want in a haircut.
Another element that I feel sets this place apart from other salons in Lexington is when I or any of their other patrons have a question about products for our hair, they are always willing to recommend what they view as the best product for a given type of hair. Finally, I feel their efforts to engage you as they cut your hair instead of just cutting your hair and talking amongst each other creates that friendly environment that makes you want to go back again. They do talk to each other at times while cutting your hair, but they make a sincere effort to keep you informed about how they might cut your hair differently then the last stylist you had, or even what they are doing differently with your hair since the last time they cut it. I have greatly appreciated their attention to detail and their willingness to explain what they are doing, and not rushing through the haircut.
Do we recommend this salon to someone looking for a place that cuts hair? In short, emphatically yes. I would recommend this salon for anyone who wants a place that cuts hair even though they are slightly more expensive then Great Clip’s or Super Cuts. While I’ve had good and bad experiences at both of those businesses, I feel that paying a bit more for a haircut and receiving a personal level of interest with the customer is an important aspect of a routine haircut. It is why I keep coming back to this salon for my haircuts. My decision is also driven by the fact that the owner makes an effort to know each of her clients who walks through her door. While I can’t guarantee the owner makes an effort to know everyone, at least in my interactions with Mimi, I have experienced how she wants everyone who walks into her salon to have a good time and walk out with a haircut they will enjoy. If you have a salon that you currently go to and are willing to try a new hair salon I guarantee that you will not be disappointed by Mimi and her team over at American Hair International just as I haven’t been disappointed since I started going there in 2018. They have been around for over 20 years, so that must say something for the level of service that they offer and how many people continue to come back again and again.
In closing, I would highly recommend this salon if you are new to the area or are looking for a great hair salon in Lexington. I would encourage you to make your own decisions after trying them out. I’ve had nothing but positive experiences with Mimi and her crew at American Hair International and would recommend you would give them a try. What do you have to lose, except your old hair stylist.
