What I think about it:
I have owned this TV for about 2 years. I bought this TV in 2017 and have enjoyed it ever since. It pairs nicely with my Xbox one S for gaming in HDR, which was one of the reasons I purchased this TV. However, because I wanted to have a 3D TV as well as a 4K TV, it took me a few months to do the research and find the perfect TV for my needs. Here were my requirements for buying a TV. It had to be an active 3D TV with a 4K TV for Xbox one S gaming. I also wanted to purchase it for under $1000. This TV met all those needs. In fact, when I purchased this TV it came with 4 pairs of 3D glasses for watching 3D movies. An added bonus.
The 4K gaming from the Xbox one S isn’t the greatest, but without question, it looks much better than playing on a 1080 pixel TV. The colors are much more vibrant and there is much more detail than you see when playing games with far fewer pixels. I have actually replayed some games I had on a 1080 pixel TV and found that the colors were far better for the HDR games on Xbox one. I missed some parts of those games on my first play through on my old TV due to lack of resolution. The vibrant colors and clarity on the Samsung 4K was well worth it, and a primary reason I purchased this TV.
The 4K movie viewing on here is also very impressive. I have watched a few movies on it, including the new Pacific Rim: Uprising, that I will review that in a later blog post. The 4K movie viewing is very much like the HDR gaming on this Television, that I can only say it is excellent and the color is outstanding.
I tested out the 3D aspect by watching 300 Rise of an Empire. I got the best viewing angle from the TV at about 8 feet from the TV. Having an active 3D TV gives you far better 3D viewing than what you typically get in the theaters watching an action movie. When arrows are flying, it really looks like the arrows are flying at you. When the sword swings, it looks and seems as if it is coming directly towards you. I also watched the Hobbit movies on this TV in 3D. All I can say is that it looks amazing. The orcs in this film and action scenes in these films really appear life like in 3D.
In conclusion, I recommend this TV for both its 3D and the 4K aspect. I’ve enjoy watching 4K movies on it, and having an Xbox one S, you can upconvert your Blu-rays to 4K if you so choose. In the sub $1,000 range, this TV pretty really addressed all my needs. I used it to replace an aging Samsung 40 inch 3D TV with an active 3D display. The improvement in the 3D between the two was amazing.
